Iquitos: The largest city in the world with no roads
Iquitos sits in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon and can only be reached by air or river. For Brazilians, it's a surprisingly accessible destination — just one direct flight from São Paulo to Lima, then 1 hour 45 minutes to Iquitos. The total journey takes between 8 and 10 hours.
Stage 1: São Paulo → Lima (direct flight)
There are daily direct flights from São Paulo (Guarulhos – GRU) to Lima (Jorge Chávez – LIM). The flight takes approximately 5 hours. LATAM Airlines operates 3–4 daily nonstop flights with round-trip fares starting from USD 280. Sky Airline offers budget-friendly fares from USD 250. From Rio de Janeiro, Brasília and other cities, connections route through Guarulhos.
Stage 2: Lima → Iquitos
The domestic flight takes just 1 hour 45 minutes. LATAM operates 4–6 daily flights. A one-way ticket costs between S/ 150 and S/ 500. Allow at least 3 hours for your connection in Lima to clear immigration and switch terminals.
Documentation for Brazilians
Brazilians don't need a visa for Peru. Under the Mercosur agreement, you can enter with your national ID card (RG) in good condition. Bringing your passport is also recommended. Permitted stay: up to 183 days. Yellow fever vaccination is strongly recommended for visiting Iquitos and the Amazon region.
