Iquitos: Only reachable by air
Iquitos sits in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon and is the largest city in the world with no road connection. From Germany, you reach Iquitos in two stages: first a long-haul flight to Lima, then a domestic flight to Iquitos. The total journey takes roughly 18 to 22 hours depending on your connection.
Stage 1: Germany → Lima
There are no direct flights from Frankfurt (FRA) or Munich (MUC) to Lima. The best connections route through European or American hubs. The most popular options for German travelers are:
Via Madrid (Iberia): One of the fastest options with a total travel time of about 16–17 hours. Iberia flies daily from Madrid to Lima.
Via Amsterdam (KLM): KLM offers daily connections from Amsterdam to Lima with convenient transfers from Frankfurt or Munich. Total time approximately 17–18 hours.
Via Paris (Air France): Air France flies nonstop from Paris-CDG to Lima daily (12 hours 30 minutes). From Frankfurt, you can reach Paris with a short connecting flight.
Via other major hubs: More affordable connections are sometimes available, though with longer layovers. Total time around 19–22 hours.

Stage 2: Lima → Iquitos
The domestic flight from Lima to Iquitos takes just 1 hour 45 minutes. LATAM Airlines and Sky Airline together operate 6 to 10 daily flights, so departures are frequent. Fares vary with the season and how far ahead you book. Allow at least 3 hours for your connection in Lima, as you'll need to clear immigration and switch to the domestic terminal. Entry requirements for Germans
